Exciting news for Scunthorpe United fans! The club is delighted to share that they have secured the permanent transfer of Connor Smith, a talented forward who previously played on loan from Hamilton Academical in the Scottish League One, and the details of the fee remain confidential.
Connor Smith's journey in football began at Heart of Midlothian, where he quickly gained recognition as a promising player. He earned his stripes in the Scottish national youth teams, representing his country at various levels from U16 all the way to the U21s. Alongside his international youth experience, Smith enhanced his skills and gained valuable first-team action through loan spells with Cowdenbeath, Arbroath, Cove Rangers, and Queens Park, navigating through the tiers of Scottish football.
At just 16 years old, Smith made his debut for Hearts, and it wasn’t until the 2022-2023 season that he became a regular fixture in the team. Notably, he even made the bench for a Europa Conference League match shortly before he first joined Scunthorpe on a temporary loan. During that initial stint, Connor quickly stood out as one of the team's key players, contributing an impressive eight goals in just 16 appearances, which caught the attention of St Johnstone, who signed him permanently in January 2024.
Though his time at St Johnstone was brief, with only a few appearances, Smith returned to Hamilton on loan, where he once again shone brightly. He quickly became a fan favorite, despite being part of a squad that faced relegation, and ultimately made the move to Hamilton permanent in January 2025. This season, at just 23 years of age, he joins Scunthorpe once more, boasting an eye-catching record of ten goal contributions in just 16 matches, eager to continue the success he enjoyed two years ago with the club.
It’s worth noting that this transfer is contingent upon international clearance and will require league approval.
Scunthorpe United also wishes to express their appreciation to Yaddlethorpe Motor Company, the club's sponsors, for their support in facilitating this transfer.
Welcome back to Scunthorpe, Connor! We can't wait to see what you bring to the pitch!
