The K4 Sportswagon is a welcome addition, especially in Europe, where the demand for estate/combi vehicles remains robust. But here's where it gets interesting:

This is a full 10 inches (265 millimeters) longer than the hatchback, with the extra length cleverly added to the rear, while maintaining the same 107.1-inch (2,720-mm) wheelbase.
But here's a detail that might raise an eyebrow: the absence of a rear wiper. On the brighter side, Kia seems to be phasing out the use of fake exhaust tips on its GT-Line gas models. Immensely Practical: The K4 Sportswagon boasts impressive cargo capacity. Folding the rear seats expands the cargo area to 50.8 cubic feet (1,439 liters). And this is the part most people miss... Although the K4 Sportswagon offers ample luggage space, it doesn't quite match the Volkswagen Golf Estate or the segment-leading Skoda Octavia Combi. Even the model it replaces, the Ceed Sportswagon, had a slightly larger boot. However, the difference is likely negligible in everyday use. The K4 Sportswagon does come standard with an electric tailgate, a feature not available on the hatchback.
Two Gas Engines, With A Hybrid On The Way: The base model features a 1.0-liter turbocharged engine, producing 113 horsepower, paired with a six-speed manual gearbox. A mild-hybrid version of the same three-cylinder engine is available with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The larger four-cylinder engine, a 1.6-liter turbocharged unit, comes standard with the automatic transmission and offers either 148 hp or 177 hp.
Given the decline of diesel engines due to emissions regulations, it's no surprise that Kia isn't offering an oil-burner. For those prioritizing maximum efficiency, a full-hybrid version will be available in Europe later this year. Regardless of the powertrain, all K4 Sportswagon models will be manufactured at Kia's factory in Mexico.
