Bryan Mbeumo highlights Joshua Zirkzee as Manchester United's biggest surprise package
Manchester United star Bryan Mbeumo has revealed the teammate who has most impressed him since joining the club last summer from Brentford for a reported £70m fee.
Mbeumo's praise for Zirkzee
Mbeumo has seamlessly integrated into life at United, scoring a career-high 20 Premier League goals in the 2024/25 season. In 22 top-flight appearances for United, he has contributed nine goals and three assists, becoming the club's leading scorer and winning over the fanbase with his talismanic form in front of goal.
During a media session with Zirkzee, Mbeumo was asked about the teammate who has surprised him the most. Without hesitation, he replied, "The guy on my left."
"I didn't know much about his playing style when I joined, as I hadn't been watching football closely," Mbeumo explained. "But I was genuinely impressed by Josh's skills. He's much more skillful with the ball than I anticipated, effortlessly holding it with his body and possessing a good strike."
Zirkzee's uncertain future
Mbeumo's praise comes at a time of uncertainty surrounding Zirkzee's future at Old Trafford. He has struggled for consistent playing time under both Ruben Amorim and Michael Carrick, who has been the caretaker boss since Carrick's appointment.
Across the six matches Carrick has managed, Zirkzee has only been afforded 11 minutes of playing time. This has led to speculation that the Netherlands international might be considering his options, particularly ahead of the winter and summer transfer windows, unless his situation improves or he receives guarantees about his future.
A report by The Peoples Person suggests that a return to Italy is on the cards, with Juventus leading the charge for his signature.

United will return to action on Sunday when they host Crystal Palace at home.
